Dear Cherished Members and Friends of Immanuel:Together our community is resilient and strong. We’ve shown we can adapt and change as we need to and still maintain our focus on our all-important ministries – our powerful calling to worship, prayer, Bible study, youth and adult formation, fellowship and music, and outreach to our community and the world.
We are grateful for your generosity and faithfulness, your strong commitment to our community, and your investment in Immanuel’s many ministries. Our Every Member Pledge campaign theme, God is with you wherever you go, reminds us, even during uncertain times, that our course is clear. We are fortified by faith and trust in God. Wherever you are, the scripture says, “Do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” ![]() The graphic we created for our Every Member Pledge campaign reflects the Immanuel star and compass rose to remind us that God points our way and guides us on our journey of faith, exploration, and discovery. We trust that God is with us to guide us, inspire us, and protect us.
This year, Immanuel’s Every Member Pledge campaign runs from November 7-21, 2021. Commitment Sunday, on November 21, will be a time to celebrate our promise to the financial support of this vibrant community of Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill. Your financial pledge allows the Vestry to prepare a financial plan that sets us on a course for the coming year. This journey serves all who worship and learn here and who care for our community and the world. All members and friends of Immanuel should have received a pledge packet mailing that includes a 2022 pledge card. You can return your pledge card to the church by mail, by placing it in the offering plate, by email to the church treasurer thewson@icoh.net stating your pledge amount, or by completing the online pledge card. God has blessed us in every direction both individually and as a parish. It is now our invitation and joy to give back in the spirit of thanksgiving. The message of God’s presence is with us as we make our financial pledge in trust and belief that “God is with you wherever you go.” Blessings and thanks be to God! The Rev. J. Randolph Alexander, Jr., Rector
Kathryn Haskin, Senior Warden Martha Shimkin, Junior Warden: Administration Darrell Wilson, Junior Warden: Buildings and Grounds P.S. We look forward in faith to your financial pledge by Sunday, November 21, 2021. |

FAQs about Pledging
Q My donations to Immanuel are small, so why does it matter if I pledge or not?
A Making a pledge is about more than a financial gift. It’s a covenant between you, God and the church community. It’s meaningful from a spiritual standpoint. Q Why do I need to pledge if I put cash in the collection plate? A Immanuel can only offer programs based on the financial support that has been pledged. The Vestry cannot pass a budget or offer programs unless there is pledged funding to cover costs. Q I’m reluctant to pledge because my income may change. What if this happens? A Making a pledge is not binding or irrevocable – you always have the freedom to revise your pledge if your circumstances or priorities change. Contact Immanuel’s Treasurer if this situation arises. Q How can pledges be paid? A Pledges can be paid in many ways – cash; check; online; regularly scheduled automatic withdrawals from a bank account or charges to a credit card; securities of publicly traded companies; and/or for those eligible, by donating all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). If you have questions, contact Immanuel’s treasurer by email treasurer@icoh.net or through the parish office at 703-370-6555. If you have questions about donating all or part of your RMD, be sure to consult with your financial, tax, and/or legal advisor to make sure it's the right decision for you. Q How do I determine an appropriate amount to pledge? What do others do? A Making a decision about your pledge is a personal decision. Each person will decide differently. Many people find the Proportional Giving Chart useful to help determine the amount of their pledge that best fits their income. |
