The Gift of Administration

This gift enables a believer to formulate, direct, and carry out plans necessary to fulfill a purpose.

If you are interested in participating in any of the opportunities below, please feel free to contact vestry@icoh.net (unless specifically directed elsewhere) and a vestry steward will put you in touch with the individual or committee overseeing it.

Opportunities to use this gift at Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill include:

Pumpkin Patch Manager
Immanuel’s signature fundraiser for outreach activities requires the help of scores of volunteers to sell pumpkins and home-made foodstuffs during the month of October each year.  There are a variety of managerial positions that oversee various aspects of the Pumpkin Patch, including Operations Manager, Food Manager, Volunteer Manager, Special Order Manager, Truck Manager, Bookkeeping Manager, and Publicity Manager.

Pumpkin Patch Coordinator
See general description above.  In addition to managers with broad oversight, the Pumpkin Patch needs coordinators who help to organize particular volunteers and activities, including Sign-Up coordinator and Reminder coordinator for volunteers; Set-Up coordinator, Daily coordinators, Close-Out coordinator and Patch Maintenance for getting the Patch up and running on a daily basis and closing it out at night; Bakery coordinator, Soup coordinator and Apple Crisps coordinator to organize volunteers who provide a steady stream of homemade goods for sale; Logistics coordinator; and the Sunday and Weekday truck coordinators to organize the delivery of pumpkins to the Patch.

Fun Friday organizer
“Fun Fridays” is a series of Friday night events, at the church, for ALL ages.  Past events have included sing-alongs, a picnic and ice cream social, caroling and Christmas cookie decorating.  We are always looking for volunteers willing to organize a “Fun Friday” event.

Youth Group Leader
Responsible, resourceful, fun individuals are needed to work with ICOH’s growing numbers of young people.  Please note:  background checks and specialized training are required for all volunteers working with young people at Immanuel.

Coffee Hour Coordinator or Volunteer Host
Coffee is served every Sunday following each service in the Parish Hall.  Individuals or families serve as volunteer hosts for this event, to make sure simple refreshments are provided.  Coffee, tea, and other standard beverages are organized every Sunday by parish staff.  The coordinator helps to recruit and organize volunteers.

Forum Hour Coordinator
Forum Hour discussions and/or activities are held most Sundays during the program year (September – May) at 10:15 a.m.  The Forum Hour Coordinator organizes guest speakers to lead discussions on a variety of issues ranging from spiritually related topics to community concerns.

Resources Committee
This committee identifies facilities-related issues and advises the Vestry on planning to address major maintenance, capital improvements and enhancements to our physical plant and grounds.  We are seeking parishioners with technical skills, strategic and planning capabilities, and finance-related expertise.

Vestry
The Vestry is composed of twelve parishioners who serve overlapping three-year terms.  Its primary function is to oversee parish finances and facilities; it also is responsible for choosing the rector, delegates to diocesan convention, and other leadership positions.  Individual members of the Vestry serve as stewards of the following areas:  Outreach, Care & Nurturing, Evangelism/Newcomers, Growth & Education, Worship, Resources, Stewardship, and Communications. The Vestry elects from its members a Senior and Junior Warden to act as overall parish managers, and a Register.  The vestry meets monthly.  Please note:  this is an elected position, and elections are held at the annual meeting in January.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee convenes periodically to review parish finances and to advise the Vestry on significant financial decisions regarding investment and management of assets and debt.   The Finance Committee also provides advice to the parish Treasurer.

Stewardship Committee
The Stewardship Committee is dedicated to making stewardship a year-round initiative underscoring the importance of good stewardship through the giving of time and talent, and pledging. The Stewardship Committee is composed of members from each of the three services and directs the annual fall stewardship campaign. The Committee also oversees Immanuel Church on the Hill’s planned giving through the Zabriskie Society.

Delegates to Diocesan Council
ICOH appoints delegates and alternates to the Annual Council of the Diocese of Virginia.  Annual Council is held in January to discuss the affairs, activities, and policies of the Diocese, and vote on the annual budget of the Diocese.   More information is available on www.thediocese.net and through the Virginia Episcopalian newsletter.  Please note:  delegates are appointed by Immanuel’s vestry.

Delegate to Region IV
Region IV of the Diocese of Virginia consists of the eight Episcopal churches in Alexandria.  The Regional Council meets on a quarterly basis to discuss individual parish events and collaborative efforts.  In particular, the Regional Council serves as a vehicle for communication and feedback to the Diocese.  Please note:  delegates are appointed by Immanuel’s vestry.
