March 30: Grace as it appears in the Sacraments
Led by the Rev. J. Randolph Alexander, Jr., Rector, along with the Rev. Susan Parsons and the Rev. Sarah Spurlock Biggs, this session will explore how God’s grace is mediated through all of the Sacraments we experience together.
April 6: Grace as it appears in parish life
In the series conclusion, led by Rector Randy Alexander, along with the Rev. Susan Parsons and the Rev. Sarah Spurlock Biggs, we will look at some of the many ways in which we experience God’s grace through our fellowship, ministry, witness, and service at Immanuel.

Discover the Practice of Silent Prayer

Last Lent, and then again last Advent, parishioners and clergy from Immanuel joined with a number of our Virginia Theological Seminary ordinands and their faculty in this form of prayer; and then somehow word got around and we were delighted to welcome some folk from surrounding Alexandrian parishes, too. This Lent we shall be engaged in a furthering of this adventure by joining each week with members of the parish of St John’s Lafayette Square, DC, some of whom will be connected to us by internet in other locales in DC and MD, and others who will join us in person. Perhaps we may think of this as a quiet, but synchronised, enfolding of our capital city with longing, Lenten prayer.
The March 25 session will be held at Zabriskie Chapel; all others will take place in the Oratory (side chapel at Immanuel Chapel). The last of these Tuesday events (April 8) will involve 15 minutes of shared silence in the Oratory followed by a very simple contemplative eucharist. All sessions will end promptly at 6pm.
Please aim to arrive at 5:10pm at the latest, for a prompt start at 5:15pm (at which time we shall link briefly into our other prayer locations before the silence begins).

Several members of the social justice ministry have decided to use the daily Lenten devotional and reflection prompts from Episcopal Relief and Development in our Lenten practice. We have committed to reading and reflecting on the daily messages, and then we will gather periodically through Lent to share what this practice is bringing up or revealing about God. If you'd like to join us in this practice, please email or text Kathryn Jackson Haskin ([email protected]) to be notified of the opportunities to gather. We will select a time for our first gathering based on the availability of participants, no earlier than March 15. ttps://www.episcopalrelief.org/church-in-action/lent/ |
