Come and Feel the Spirit!
Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill is now regathering for in-person worship and other church activities. We are one parish that worships in two locations: Zabriskie Chapel (3606 Seminary Road, at the corner of Quaker Lane and Seminary) and Immanuel Chapel (3737 Seminary Road, on the seminary grounds). Since we anticipate changes as we move ahead on this phased-in effort, please check back to this page for the most current developments. |
NEW!! Beginning July 4, a staffed nursery will again be offered to our youngest parishioners at the 10:30 am Sunday services in Immanuel Chapel. Please see an usher for directions to this dedicated space.
Worship
No reservations are required for any service. We will continue to encourage, for now, that all wear masks at the indoor services, largely as a protection for our children who have not yet had the opportunity to be vaccinated. We will also continue, for now, to offer Communion in one kind only (the Bread); the Church has long taught that receiving either the Bread or Wine is a full Communion and full reception of the Body and Blood of Christ. We will have soloists at the 10:30 Eucharist, along with an informal “pick-up” choir over the Summer, with our choir returning full-force, God willing, in September. We hope you will also stay after Sunday indoor worship for fellowship at a simple in-person Coffee Hour.
Sunday Services:
8 AM Eucharist—Rite I, in Zabriskie Chapel, 3606 Seminary Road.
10:30 AM Eucharist—Rite II, in Immanuel Chapel, 3737 Seminary Road. This service will also be live-streamed, going forward. Our current plan is to offer livestreaming in perpetuity, building on key learnings from the pandemic. Livestreaming is an ongoing ministry to those who are ill, or traveling, or those who have moved away and are alumni/alumnae of Immanuel.
1 PM Eucharist—a simple outdoor service, in the gardens behind Zabriskie Chapel (weather permitting) This service is offered as a pastoral response to those who are not yet quite ready to return indoors for worship. We will monitor, on an ongoing basis, whether it seems to be meeting this need. Please bring your own lawn chair!
Weekday worship opportunities:
Tuesdays at 10:00 AM — Morning Prayer in Zabriskie Chapel
Wednesdays at 6:30 PM—Holy Eucharist in Zabriskie Chapel
Fridays at 8:30 PM—Compline, by Zoom call
Fellowship, Education, and Spiritual Formation
Coffee Hour -- Please join us for coffee and conversation in person after any Sunday service.
Forum Hour — Sunday Forum Hours feature speakers on Christian discipleship and current topics. Be sure to check the Parish Calendar for upcoming Forum Hours, as they are held on selected Sundays and not each week. They are hosted in the Parish Hall following the 8 AM service (approximately 9:15 AM) for those who would like to attend in-person, and are also livestreamed on Immanuel's YouTube channel for those who wish to view them from home or at another time.
Bible Study and Book Discussion — Immanuel has four different clergy-led Bible/Book study groups meeting weekly, and one longstanding Bible study meeting monthly, all through Zoom. Please check the Parish Calendar for the schedule. One group is specifically for members of the Episcopal Youth Community, but all others are open to any interested participants, and no previous study or participation is necessary.
Contemplation and Prayer — Immanuel's Benedictine Community meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month, on Zoom presently, to reflect on the tenets of St. Benedict, such as humility, silence, and prayer. Individual reflection is guided by short readings from a Benedictine-inspired book to pray and study.
Pastoral Visits
The clergy can now make pastoral visits in most situations, and we are eager to make those visits! Whether it be to bring Communion, to meet for lunch, or to meet in our offices, there is a lot of catching up to do. Please call or email individual clergy to schedule. We hope to re-engage our lay Eucharistic visitors soon, as well.
