What Does Your Pledge Do?
Here are just a few examples...

  • In an increasingly secular society, it teaches the Christian story to children, teens, and adults.  Pledge dollars have helped form our youth, allowing them to serve others and nurture our community through packaging food at Alexandria Food Assistance Center, creating meals for Catholic Charities, hosting a dinner for participants in Offender Aid and Restoration, and planning service projects to aid Alexandria’s homeless.  EYC is a vibrant ministry that thrives on the power of your pledge dollars.

  • In an increasingly distracted world, it provides sacred and reflective quiet through retreats, prayer, and meditation groups.  Pledge dollars support the Circle of Quiet, a weekly time to listen to God, share spiritual journeys, and gather strength for the week ahead; the Early Christians, weekly morning prayer and study group; and Advent and Lenten retreats that give parishioners time to reflect, pray, and prepare spiritually for the holy seasons.
  • In a polarized world, it reaches across the city and around the world to connect, share, and support.  Pledging to Immanuel enables the parish to send over $225 a day into places and lives of need.  Of this, approximately $63,000 was generated in 2017 by the Pumpkin Patch.
  • In a hungry world, it helps to provide an abundance of the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

  • It provides a venue for the love of music though singing, playing, listening, and worshipping.  Pledge dollars bring music to our lives by supporting Immanuel’s Choir, which sings at every service, Immanuel’s Angels – the children’s choir for ages 7-12, our Bell Choir, which performs for special services, and our beloved Shrine Monters, who delight us at informal services and fellowship gatherings.
  • Through the clergy and laity, it provides pastoral counseling, support, and guidance for people in crises, approaching life-changing milestones, or dealing with loss or roadblocks on their faith journeys.
  • Your pledge dollars expand the walls of Immanuel into the community, providing the Sacraments, flowers, notes, meals, and transportation to our parish family members through our clergy, Pastoral Care Committee, and Lay Eucharistic Ministers.
  • It provides a safe home and space for diverse communities.  Pledge dollars provide space for yoga and exercise groups: congregations of Muslims; African and Caribbean Anglicans; LGBT Catholics, (Dignity, USA); Alcoholics Anonymous; prayer and meditation groups; neighborhood associations; and a pre-school.
  • Every pledge dollar provides twelve cents to the Diocese of Virginia to support its many programs in Virginia and around the globe.  Pledge dollars equip, empower, and guide college students with Chaplains at James Madison, Mary Washington; Virginia Commonwealth Universities; the University of Virginia; and Northern Virginia Community College.  Pledge dollars also allow the Diocese to coordinate and facilitate social ministries that address issues of the environment, race, mental health and public policy.
  • Through the national Church, a pledge dollar supports military chaplains, ministry in prisons and missions on Native American reservations.  Seventeen cents of every dollar in the diocesan budget goes to the national Church, where it supports the work of the Anglican Communion around the world including: the Middle East, and Africa.  It also makes possible The Episcopal Church's "Peace Corps,” the Young Adult Service Corps, which teaches, works in agricultural development, helps refugees and migrant workers, and serves in medical settings in the US and around the world.
  • It helps the isolated find community, the weak find strength, the grieving find comfort, the generous find outlets, and the peacemakers find allies.

  • It provides a place of quiet, of warmth, of learning, of purpose, of good works, and of art.
  • It bridges the gaps among generations, races, neighborhoods, and political viewpoints, supporting “Bible on Tap,” Adult Forum Hours, Seniors Ministry, Family Nights, and Early Christians.
  • Pledge dollars help us have a lot of fun at covered dish dinners, receptions, celebrations, field trips, and coffee hours.

Pledge dollars help seminarians to learn what it means to serve and lead in a faith community.
