Senior Adult Ministry and Fellowship
Immanuel’s congregation includes a vibrant community of older adults who are active participants in all aspects of parish life. The mission of Senior Ministry and Fellowship is to support them in their faith journey with educational and fellowship opportunities of special interest to seniors, links to important resources, and programs that help to integrate all generations spiritually.

News and Upcoming EventsJanuary 2025TUESDAY, JANUARY 21: FOURTH TUESDAY BROWN BAG LUNCH, ZABRISKIE PARISH HALL: The Selection and Role of the Archbishop with The Rev. J. Randolph Alexander, Jr.
The recent resignation of the Right Rev. Justin Welby from the office of Archbishop of Canterbury creates the perfect time to ask questions such as “How is the Archbishop chosen? Who are the likely candidates for the next Archbishop? And really, what does the Archbishop and the Anglican Communion have to do with the Episcopal Church?” Please come to the Parish Hall at 12:15pm Tuesday, January 21, and talk with the Rev. Randy Alexander for some interesting information and stimulating conversation. Bring your own sandwich or salad, and we will provide dessert and drinks. There is no reservation requirement and no cost to this event and, as always, friends, neighbors, and family members are welcome. TUESDAY, JANUARY 28: VISIT TO U.S. BOTANIC GARDEN At the special request of our Associate Rector Susan Parsons we will be going to the U. S. Botanic Garden on Tuesday, January 28 at 12:30pm. Opened in 1850 and located on Capitol Hill, it is the oldest continuously operated botanic garden in the United States. Enjoy the current special exhibit, “Fierce Fauna: Tales of Survival and Demise” and become closely acquainted with plants that have evolved to defend themselves! Plus, the garden’s regular collection, including desert and tropical forest plants, offers the perfect foil to a winter day. We will be leaving from the Parish Hall parking lot at noon on Tuesday, January 28 and will plan to return no later than 4:00pm. There is no charge for admission to the Botanic Garden, but there will be a $20 copay to ride in the van. Please RSVP to Karen Besser if you are planning to join us for this event. |
"Stewardship of Retirement"
Retirement for most of us describes about one-third of our lives. Yet for many, planning for it seldom goes beyond questions of adequate income, a keen anticipation of some things we won't have to do anymore and a vague notion of leisure. These things are essential, but life is much more.
The "Stewardship of Retirement" Seminar was led by Immanuel parishioner The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Wade at Immanuel on September 27, 2014. Participants included both those contemplating retirement and those already retired. A series of break-out sessions drilled down on the issues of leaving one pattern of life and establishing a new one. The first video below is the introduction by Dr. Wade. Below that are shorter videos of his comments preceding each of the break-out sessions.
