Senior Adult Ministry and Fellowship
Immanuel’s congregation includes a vibrant community of older adults who are active participants in all aspects of parish life. The mission of Senior Ministry and Fellowship is to support them in their faith journey with educational and fellowship opportunities of special interest to seniors, links to important resources, and programs that help to integrate all generations spiritually.

News and Upcoming EventsFEBRUARY
THE SUBLIME TASTE OF TEA! You may have joined Senior Adult Ministry and Fellowship on our wine tasting and beer tasting adventures. Now join us for a Tea Tasting on Wednesday, February 8 at noon in the Parish Hall. There are thousands of varieties of Camellia Sinensis and together we will experience a variety of teas, following them from leaf to cup, comparing texture, color, and fragrance of the unbrewed tea leaves, as well as the color, fragrance and flavor of the finished product. Meet the variety of tea that went swimming in Boston Harbor in 1773 as well as other well-travelled varieties and enjoy a special lunch of foods chosen to let the experience of the tea shine. There is no cost for this event, but reservations are required to ensure that there will be sufficient tea and lunch for all. The tea tasting will be limited to 24 people, so RSVP to Karen Besser no later than Sunday, February 5. LUNCHEON AT GOODWIN HOUSE-ALEXANDRIA will be on our regular third Wednesday of the month, February 15. Meet us at noon in the Fillmore Room. RSVP to Rev. Susan Parsons in the Parish office. SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY BROWN BAG LUNCH returns our usual day, the fourth Tuesday of the Month. In February, we will be meeting at 12:15 on Tuesday, the 28th to spend some time live, via Zoom, with Dr. Steven Plank. Dr. Plank is the Andrew B. Meldrum Professor of Musicology at Oberlin College. He also writes the program notes for The Thirteen, a nationally recognized choir and orchestra “celebrated for reimagining the potential of vocal music from many periods.” The Thirteen will be performing the Rachmaninoff Vespers (also known as the All-Night Vigil) in Immanuel Chapel on Friday, March 3 at 7:30pm. Dr. Plank will introduce us to the Vespers and will help to make this sweeping work more familiar to us, so that we can experience it as an entrée to our observance of Lent and Holy Week. Please bring your own sandwich or salad, and Senior Ministry will provide beverages and dessert. There is no cost for this event and no reservation is required. ** If you purchase your ticket to the March 3rd concert by THE THIRTEEN from Senior Ministry you will get a $10 discount. Senior Ministry will be hosting a reception following the concert, with wine and desserts, on the VTS campus following the concert as our March event, so please put this date on your calendar now! As always, if you need a ride to either of these events, please contact Karen Besser. |
"Stewardship of Retirement"
Retirement for most of us describes about one-third of our lives. Yet for many, planning for it seldom goes beyond questions of adequate income, a keen anticipation of some things we won't have to do anymore and a vague notion of leisure. These things are essential, but life is much more.
The "Stewardship of Retirement" Seminar was led by Immanuel parishioner The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Wade at Immanuel on September 27, 2014. Participants included both those contemplating retirement and those already retired. A series of break-out sessions drilled down on the issues of leaving one pattern of life and establishing a new one. The first video below is the introduction by Dr. Wade. Below that are shorter videos of his comments preceding each of the break-out sessions.
