Senior Adult Ministry and Fellowship
|
Immanuel’s congregation includes a vibrant community of older adults who are active participants in all aspects of parish life. The mission of Senior Ministry and Fellowship is to support them in their faith journey with educational and fellowship opportunities of special interest to seniors, links to important resources, and programs that help to integrate all generations spiritually.

News and Upcoming EventsJanuary 2026THURSDAY JANUARY 15: FIELD TRIP TO WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL FOR LUNCH AND STAINED GLASS TOUR Join Senior Adult Ministry and Fellowship and see the world in a whole new way! We will start the New Year off with a trip to the Washington National Cathedral to take a tour of the stained-glass windows on Thursday, January 15. We will be eating lunch first and then taking a guided tour. While walking through the Cathedral, you will witness the stylistic evolution of Cathedral windows from 1911 to the present and learn about the creation process, which combines artistry and technical skill. In the tour, you will also discover how to “read” a window, decoding symbols that add meaning and depth to each lancet. We will be assembling at the Zabriskie Parish Hall at noon. After lunch, our one-hour tour begins at 2:00pm. We plan to return to the Parish Hall no later than 4:00pm. Tickets for the tour are $20 per person, and the co-pay to ride in the van is $20. I have 20 tickets for this event. Please RSVP to Karen at [email protected]. WEDNESDAY JANUARY 21: "THIRD WEDNESDAY" LUNCH AT GOODWIN HOUSE-ALEXANDRIA Please join us on January 21 at noon in the Fillmore Room for luncheon and conversation. RSVP to Rev. Susan if you are not a resident of Goodwin House and to Susan Kernan if you are a resident. TUESDAY, JANUARY 27: FOURTH TUESDAY BROWN BAG LUNCH: SAINTS ALIVE! Do you ever wonder if there are folks among us who will be recognized in future times as saints? When Pauli Murray spent her third year of seminary at VTS in 1975-76 she was 65 years old, and had been a civil rights lawyer, a co-founder of the National Organization for Women, and a published author and poet. Extraordinary certainly, but…a saint? But Murray, who was ordained in January 1977 and passed away in July 1985, was added to the Calendar of Commemorations of the Episcopal Church, and thus to Holy Women, Holy Men at General Convention 2012. Come and let’s learn more about Pauli Murray’s life and talk about what role Holy Women and Holy Men have in our lives. We will meet in the Parish Hall at 12:15pm on Tuesday, January 27. Bring your own sandwich or salad, and drinks and dessert will be provided. No RSVP is necessary. AS ALWAYS, friends are welcome to join Senior Ministry and Fellowship activities. |
"Stewardship of Retirement"
Retirement for most of us describes about one-third of our lives. Yet for many, planning for it seldom goes beyond questions of adequate income, a keen anticipation of some things we won't have to do anymore and a vague notion of leisure. These things are essential, but life is much more.
The "Stewardship of Retirement" Seminar was led by Immanuel parishioner The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Wade at Immanuel on September 27, 2014. Participants included both those contemplating retirement and those already retired. A series of break-out sessions drilled down on the issues of leaving one pattern of life and establishing a new one. The first video below is the introduction by Dr. Wade. Below that are shorter videos of his comments preceding each of the break-out sessions.
