Serve
Immanuel is a community of "doers." Most members commit their time, talent and devotion to one or more service ministries: Vestry, outreach, stewardship committee, finance, music, seniors, worship (for example, acolytes, lay readers, altar guild, ushers) and fellowship events. We believe that friendship and fellowship can help us practice our faith and grow in our understanding of God’s Word. We know that relationships within our community are forged not only through our shared worship but also through opportunities to learn, work, serve, and play together.
At Immanuel, outreach is not just a budget line — it is a guiding philosophy and one of the keystones of our community. Our parishioners tutor in local schools, cook meals at a shelter and a soup kitchen, gather school supplies and Christmas gifts for Alexandria children, and distribute household goods and food to needy neighbors. We are known widely as "the Pumpkin church" for our annual October fundraiser pumpkin sale, which involves hundreds of volunteers who raise thousands of dollars to support more than 30 local, regional and international programs. |
