The Rev. Susan Parsons
Associate Rector
The Rev. Susan Parsons, born in Texas, raised in Oklahoma, spent much of her childhood attending the local Southern Baptist Church with her large extended family. She studied psychology at the University of New Mexico where she met her future husband who introduced her to the Episcopal Church. To his chagrin, she immediately recognized the Episcopal church as her spiritual home and insisted on attending on a regular basis.
They married, moved to Chicago and then spent four years living in Europe where Susan made a career of driving visiting relatives all over the countryside. Back in the states, she raised two daughters and held almost every possible volunteer position in the church including Altar Guild Director and Senior Warden. Susan was ordained in the Diocese of California in 2004. Her first call was as Associate Rector to St. Francis Episcopal Church in Novato, CA shortly after ordination, then in 2011, to St Mary the Virgin San Francisco as Interim Associate Rector. She was elected Rector of St. Peter’s in Redwood City in 2013. In 2018, with six grandchildren needing her attention, Susan retired and moved to Reston, Virginia to be closer to one of her daughters. Reading, research, digging around in vintage shops, and tending her indoor jungle keep her busy, as well as her two badly spoiled malti-poos and, of course, the grandchildren. |
