The Rev. Sarah Spurlock Biggs
Assistant Rector
Director of Children, Youth, and Families
The Rev. Sarah Spurlock Biggs is thrilled to combine her love of intergenerational faith formation and our beautiful Episcopal liturgy in her new role as Assistant Rector at Immanuel.
Her favorite part about ministry is building community and supporting laity in discovering and living into the calls God has placed in all of our lives. She is particularly interested in the ways our mental health and beliefs inform how we love and live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially in reference to justice and peace. Originally from Ohio, Sarah has lived in the Washington metro area for 19 years and has two amazing sons and two sweet pups. Most recently, Sarah graduated from the Virginia Theological Seminary with a Master in Divinity and will be ordained to the priesthood on September 9th, 10:30 a.m. at The Falls Church Episcopal. During her time at seminary, Sarah served as an intern at Grace Episcopal Church, Alexandria, and as a seminarian at both St. David’s, Ashburn and St. John’s, McLean. She served as Chaplain and completed her Clinical Pastoral Education at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg. She has also served as Director of Music and Lay Ministry Lead for Mission and Outreach at St. Peter’s in the Woods in Fairfax Station, her sending parish. Before attending seminary, Sarah taught Music and Chorus for Fairfax County Public Schools and also worked as a vocal coach, soloist, and choral section leader. For fun she loves to create art, cook and share great meals with friends, garden, sing in choirs, and treasure hunt in thrift and antique stores. |
